Website. What is a website? A Web site is a related collection of World Wide Web (WWW) files that includes a beginning file called a home page. Websites, in our everyday life, have been very handy. It can be used in several types- a personal website, a commercial website, a government website or a non-profit organization website.
Websites can be the
work of an individual, a business or other organization, and are typically
dedicated to a particular topic or purpose. It gives information and/or service
for the user. Given that, we can say that a website should be constructed user-friendly but not all website is created like that. There are also poorly designed websites. Here are some examples:
1.) http://boulter.com/gps/
There are two things that I don't like about this website.
First, the appearance.
It's too plain. All I see is texts and links that are not to mention have too small fonts. This website is too boring I would not even want to use it. I mean look at the picture, the background is just plain white and all the content is squeezed at the left, the web designer didn't even care to fix the alignment and set to the centre. The design is too basic I would think that an eight-year old child made it.
What I suggest for this is to make the font a little bigger like highlighting all the words that needed to be highlighted, pumped up the background with a little color and set a template for its layout.
Second, too complicated.
I think that instead of helping the user, it will just make a confusion to the user. Because first of all, the user is asked to input the coordinates of the place. Not all people in this world know hot to get the coordinates of a place or just imagine yourself driving at night and you suddenly noticed that you're lost then when you browse a GPS website, you opened this website. Of course you won't know the coordinates of the place you're in so this website would put into no use.
Maybe it will be easier to use if the name of the place you're heading to is asked to be inputed instead of the coordinate of the place.
2.) http://industrialpainter.com/
There are three things I didn't like about this website.
First, the background sound.
It's the first thing you'll notice and hate about this website. Although the background noises are the vocalization of what's the websites flashing on the screen. It's still annoying and the voice is kinda creepy. Plus every dialog or selection in this websites comes with a sound.
Although having a sound in a website is somehow cool, too much of it will ruined the coolness you want to achieve. Maybe minimalizing the background sound would be great.
Second, the appearance.
This website is too flashy because there are a lot of animation. Its like almost all of the texts here are moving and ends up making me dizzy and hurts my eye. Enough for making me close this website for a minute of browsing through this website.
Third, how much time it takes to load the page.
Maybe because of the images, background sound and the animations it takes too much time to load the website. If I were a very impatient user after three seconds of waiting for this page to load, I will definitely close it without even waiting it to finish loading.
Again, minimalizing pictures and other things with this website will make such an improvement to it.
3.) http://www.lingscars.com/
There are two things I didn't like here.
First, the background sound.
This website have a background song that plays after a second or so of staying in this background. Its very disturbing especially when you're trying to focus on picking a car to buy. Plus the sound is weird.
Second, the appearance.
I grew a love-hate relationship with this website because this is a very helpful page at the same time pain in the eye website. This website is too colorful and crowded. Most of the multimedia here in this website doesn't even have a relation with its real purpose which is to sell cars. for example is the business' owner moving picture holding this, a walking chicken, a cat, etc.
The site is too crowded with nonsense- it blocks some of the menu. Just like the BMW menu on the left side, it is blocked by ling's picture. It's kinda annoying.
Websites are supposed to be user-friendly and these three websites opposes it. It supposed to attract customers or help the users with the service they offer.
